ONE EARTH TOUR

@In ancient Japan the taiko was a symbol of the rural community and it is said that the limits of the village were defined not by geography but by the furthest distance at which the taiko could be heard. It is Kodo's hope with the One Earth Tour to bring the sound of the taiko to people around the globe, so that we may all be reminded of our membership of that much larger community, the world. Appearing as Kodo for the first time at the 1981 Berlin Festival they received calls for encores for an hour, a record for the Berlin Symphony Hall. Since then Kodo has given as much as 2,000 performances in 37 countries , finally reaching its last unvisited continent, Africa, in its tenth anniversary year,1991. In an average year, Kodo spends about 1/3 of the time overseas, 1/3 touring in Japan and 1/3 resting and preparing new material on Sado Island.

@They have aquired a truly international reputation for their high energy, precision performances, and milestones on the One Earth Tour have been; sold-out performances at the Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival in 1984, an appearance in 1985 at the Edinburgh Festival which was followed by two weeks of sold-out performances at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, sold-out two-week runs at Sadler's Wells Theatre, London in 1987, 1990, 1993 and 1996 and sold out one-week runs at New York's City Center Theater in both 1988 and 1990, sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall, sold-out performances at Theatre de la Ville in Paris in 1995
