ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION was formed in 1996 at the college's music club in Yokohama, Japan.
The band released their first independent album with six songs (all lyrics written in English). The album was sold at clubs where the band played, and also through online shopping.

In 2003, the band major debuted by re-releasing, "HOUKAI AMPLIFIER" from Ki/oon Records.
In the summer of 04, the band played in more than 10 summer festivals, including MEET THE WORLD BEAT, FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 04 and ROCK IN JAPAN FES 04, and NIPPON BUDOKAN.

The 2nd album "SOL-FA" was released on October 20, and it debuted at No.1 on ORICON ALBUM CHART for 2 consecutive weeks.

In 2005 their first extensive tour (March 14- June 26) titled "Tour 2005 "Re:Re:"" was held, consisting of 48 shows in 38 cities throughout Japan. The summer of 2005 saw the band appearing at the main stage of major summer festivals - SUMMER SONIC 05 (TOKYO & OSAKA), ROCK IN JAPAN FES. 05, and RISING SUN ROCK FES. 2005.

ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION presents "NANO-MUGEN FES. 2006" was held at YOKOHAMA ARENA for 2 days. 12 bands (7 Japanese bands including AKG, 3 US bands and 2 UK bands) had performed.

In 2013, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION celebrated their 10th year anniversary since their major debut with a several tours. They kicked it off with their first European tour which included London, Paris and Cologne. In September they held a special two day concert at Yokohama Stadium with big name guest performers. In December they performed their first Asia Circuit tour with shows in Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.

In 2015, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION released their new album, “Wonder Future” that was recorded at Studio 606 in Los Angeles, which is the private studio of the American rock band, Foo Fighters. The band will embark on their Latin American tour starting in November.
